In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity.
It is a civil award bestowed by the President of the United States led by the AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with Points of Light. This program allows Certifying Organizations to recognize their most exceptional volunteers, and The American Legion Post 250 Middleburg is a Certifying Organization for the PVSA.
The award recognizes individuals, families, and groups who achieve a certain number of service hours within a 12-month period. The award also can be given for cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime.
